Cap Times picks up WNA honors

The Capital Times picked up two first-place awards in the 2008 Wisconsin Newspaper Associations' Better Newspaper Contest.

Business reporter Mike Ivey took first place for business coverage for his April 30 story "Road to nowhere," which chronicled several Madison-area building projects put on hold because of a bleak economy.

Sports writer Dennis Semrau won first place for best sports feature for "Senior night manages to surprise" about a Feb. 8 high school basketball game between Portage and Mount Horeb in which both teams fielded special needs students.

Second place awards include Jeff Richgels for business coverage and John Nichols for best editorial.

Nichols also picked up the third-place award for best editorial pages.
