WKTI wasn't screwed up for the Lake FM nonsense. It was pretty much done when Bob Reitman retired.

Prior to that, they tried an Adult CHR approach "Milwaukee's Hit Music Channel, 94-5 KTI" which did nothing for them. Flashback Friday was culled down to a few songs. Then they tweaked back to Hot AC, but it was too late.

The station's glory days were done. It had to change. So they started Lake FM.

Lake FM wasn't perfect in the ratings, but it was an improvement over what WKTI was getting, and still is to an extent. They have a format that perfectly fits the 25-54 demographic in Milwaukee (Milwaukee listeners LOVE 80s music and they hear plenty of it. Turn the station on now, they're doing an 80s weekend.)

They go at it with B93.3 for the 25-54 80s music listeners. Both stations focus on the 80s, with a sprinkle of 70s and 90s-current.

WKTI, when it flipped to Hot AC in the early 90s was "growing up with their listeners" which was often the reason given when stations went Hot AC at the time. Lake FM continues that tradition of growing up with their listeners by focusing on 80s music instead of modern Hot AC (as WMYX does)

One of the things I've noticed about WMYX, is they have a very "bright" sound. The music is pitched up bigtime, moreso than even WXSS. They have flashy imaging, decent airstaff (except Ryan Seacrest who is piped in off the bird) They had syndicated talk nights (Your Time With Kim Iversen) but she quit her show, so they brought back the All Night Party Mix, which was a fixture on that station in the 90s.

They have a tired playlist. It's the same stale songs played over and over and over again for years. But the pitching, airstaff, and overall "bright" sound makes the station sound good. It's also a heritage station. Been on the radio in Milwaukee since the 80s. First "Mix" station in the country.

I can't comment on WNRG's ratings because I don't see them. But WNRG is Milwaukee's first official full blown Rhythmic CHR station since Hot 102 (Unless you count WXSS between February 2003 and September 2003) It has a very good flow. The music flows together well. Processing sounds good. Imaging is great. It's on a small signal, but it covers the area where the listeners of the format are most likely to reside (Milwaukee County)

Radio Now is the only straight-ahead Top-40 station in town. WXSS leans rhythmic still. That hasn't been an issue for them. Part of the reason for leaning rhythmic was to avoid competing with WMYX. It didn't used to lean at all. WRNW is basically what WXSS was prior to February 2003, with much fewer gold tracks. They focus on current chart hits. None of the 90s 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G in power rotation.

Not an Elvis Duran fan. I think it's just too loud and obnoxious, not to mention it's piped in and not local.
