Loss of Hartmann hurts Air America
//

Madison Clear Channel station 92.1 "the Mic" recently bounced Thom Hartmann after a short run, replacing him with a financial expert show hosted by Dave Ramsey.

Hartmann is one of the best talkers out there, offering historical perspectives and debates with some of the most zealous right wingers.

The operations manager's reason for pulling Hartmann is that the station is "more than just political talk." In the radio business, that's a format change.

One can't help wondering why someone wanted to break up the Air America format with a guy who hosts a show on the Fox Business Network. I have nothing against teaching money management, but this is vacuous showbiz from someone conservative enough to have his own Fox show on the failed business network.

If this was such a good idea, why didn't Clear Channel replace a conservative daytime talk show on 1310 WIBA? You know where I'm going with this. After awhile, the ratings sink even lower, and that's that -- Air America couldn't cut it in one of the most liberal cities in the country.

The Air America format of liberal talk is in its beginning stages. Syndication is the most economical way to introduce and grow a format. Bring back Hartmann.
