iDGi: The "YouTubeing" of TV

One of my favorite topics is the so-called "YouTubeing" of TV, which many analysts think will happen in the next few years.

Essentially what that means is that programming will be available via the Internet on-demand for viewing on integrated HDTV/computer devices.

MidwestBusiness.com recently ran a Chicago Sun-Times story about Chicago-based Neuros Technology, which is creating a remote control of sorts for this brave new world.

"We take all that Internet content and deliver it in a way that is more suitable for the couch," Neuros Technology founder and CEO Joe Born said in the story. "We want the openness of a (personal computer) with a TiVo-like experience."

Neuros is currently selling test units of its LINK set-top box and "keymote" for $299.

Once installed, a directory of free programming from services including Hulu.com, YouTube and NBC.com can be accessed at Neuros.tv.

Rather than traversing from site to site, virtually every show that is freely and legally distributed online by the major networks can now be found in one place on your TV set.
