Yeah, I'm not really sure what the point was of Midwest running HD with no subchannels (at least not on 98.1 and 106.3 ... could never pull in the subchannel that was supposedly running on 94.1). To me, the analog signal usually sounds better than "HD," so if you're not going to take advantage of the extra channels, why bother?

It's a shame that things have worked out the way they have with HD, but this has just been totally botched by the industry:

* too late to market
* receivers are too expensive and not prevalent. someone should've shoved some money at the car manufacturers to get it standard on cars.
* poor programming on HD subchannels
* idiotic licensing scheme. How and why the industry would agree to a scheme that guarantees perpetual licensing payments to ibiquity, I just do not understand.

Oh well. Not the first, worst, or last dumb move the radio industry will make.
