Emmy Fink got a little bit of grief when she majored in broadcast news and physical education at UW-Whitewater. Now she's got a job that uses those two things in a big way.

Fink is the new host of the "Discover Wisconsin" television program, replacing Stephanie Klett.

Klett had been the host of the Wisconsin travel show since 1993, but left in January to become secretary of the state Department of Tourism.

"Really, this job, with everything it requires, is perfect for what I studied," Fink said Thursday. "This weekend, I'm going to Sheboygan for kayak and sailing lessons."

Fink, 27, lives in Madison and is a native of Yorkville in Racine County. She had been host of "Buzz Into Madison" segments on Madison's CW (Channel 57). She also hosted the "Wisconsin Women's Sports Hour" on WTSO radio.

The producers of "Discover Wisconsin" invited viewers to send in their own video auditions and received more than 400.

"I sent them a video that had photos of me fishing, skiing, snowmobiling," Fink said. "I wanted to show that not only could I talk about all of these, but I do them already."

The program is still using episodes with Klett as host, filmed before she took the state tourism job. Fink's first program will air in January.

"Discover Wisconsin" airs locally at 6:30 p.m. Saturdays on WKOW.
