It's possible that it's just temporary. I seem to remember hearing that MWF invested some decent coin to get it up and running. It may be a cost cutting move or simply that the HD gear needs some repairs. There often isn't any spares when it comes to HD.
I can tell you that in some markets HD is taking off due to the ability to simulcast HD channels on translators. Kansas City has an HD2 on a translator that is getting excellent numbers. It's also turning out to be a good way to simulcast AM signals. We're simulcasting WSSP on WXSS and we've had a few listeners call to ask where they can get HD radios so they can listen to WSSP better at night.
