Madison360: Cap Times, like rest of media, keeps evolving
By PAUL FANLUND | Posted: Thursday, November 5, 2009 2:00 pm | The Capital Times
Last year, the Cap Times became the focus of lots of national and even international attention when we stopped printing a daily newspaper and moved to our weekly tabloids (Cap Times and 77 Square) and focus online. That's because we were one of the first newspapers in the country to abandon a daily print edition.
Things have continued to evolve rapidly this year as we have merged some departments with the State Journal -- features and sports -- and also combined other areas less obvious to readers -- photo, design, copy desk, graphics, video, and an online center.
Here is a recent interview I did with a public radio station about the state of media. I talk about how we have evolved over the past 18 months and acknowledge that the changes were controversial with many long-time readers.
In some cases, they still are.
In the interview, I talk about how our goal is to produce excellent public affairs journalism and opinion that fills a critical role for the Madison community. As a kickoff for this new blog, I thought this worth sharing. My comments start a couple of minutes into this program.
