Nobody can see everything they want to at the Wisconsin Film Festival every year. And while some of the bigger movies that play the festival have a good chance of coming back to theaters, or at the very least coming out on DVD, that's not often the case with Wisconsin-made films. Sure, "Being Bucky" and "Winter of Frozen Dreams" got post-festival theatrical runs in town, but they're the exception.

Fortunately, Wisconsin Public Television is doing a major service to Wisconsin film fans (and Wisconsin filmmakers) with its new "Director's Cut" series, which airs at 9:30 p.m. Saturdays throughout the state. The half-hour talk show hosted by Charles Monroe-Kane has featured numerous filmmakers, film festival directors and others from around the state talking about their projects, and the state of filmmaking in Wisconsin.

What's great about the current season, which runs through the end of July, is that WPT has started running the actual films immediately following the episode. So recently, after the filmmakers of "Triviatown" (a wonderful doc about Stevens Point's gonzo trivia contest) were interview on "Director's Cut," viewers got to see the film in its entirety. It's a great way for film fans to catch up on the local movies that they missed, as well as a terrific platform to get the movies out to a wider statewide audience.

This season will include screenings of 2009 Wisconsin Film Festival favorites like "Win Or Lose: A Summer Camp Story," "Illegal Use of Joe Zopp," and "Fishing for Tradition: A Lutefisk Saga." Here's the full calendar:

May 16, "Reeseville," a thriller about a murder that unravel's a small town's secrets, with director Christian Otjen

May 23, "Win or Lose: A Summer Camp Story," a documentary about an ultra-competitive summer camp, with director Louis Lapat

June 6, "Illegal Use of Joe Zopp," a zany comedy/murder mystery in the vein of the Coen Brothers, with filmmakers Seth Hedrington and Nick Holle

June 13, "The Life of Reilly," a very entertaining chronicle of the late Charles Nelson Reilly's one-man show, with filmmakers Frank Anderson and Barry Poltermann

June 20, "Disconnected," a documentary about a group of teens who do a three week "Digital Detox," with filmmakers Melody Gilbert and Mitchell Lundin

June 27, "Fishin' For Tradition: A Lutefisk Saga," a documentary about Wisconsin's favorite seafood, with director Eric J. Nelson

July 11, "Mad City Chickens," a documentary about Madisonians who raise their own chickens for fun and eggs, with directors Tashai Lovington and Robert Lughai

July 18, "Jerabek," a searing documentary about a Green Bay family struggling to cope after their son is killed in Iraq, with filmmakers Civia Tamarkin and Steve Levin

July 25 "Immortal Cupboard," a biopic about Wisconsin poet Lorine Niedecker, with director Cathy Cook
